Fang Zhu is Professor in Political Science at the School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan University, Shanghai. Prof. Zhu teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in comparative politics, political development in modern China, and politics of globalization.
The train crash tragedy in Wenzhou draw more social reflection than most major accidents. Chinese netizens reacted strongly to official reports of the event. This guest lecture deals with the state-society relation in current China and how the Communist Party manages to stay in power in times of challenging socio-economic changes under the reform.
