The Doctoral Program of Contemporary Asian Studies is a multidisciplinary doctoral program open to all doctoral candidates in Finland focusing on East and Southeast Asian topics in their research.

News

  • The next workshop will take place in Leiden 1-2 March, 2012 in cooperation with Asian Modernities and Traditions research group of the University of Leiden.

  • DAS doctoral student Jemima Repo defended her PhD dissertation "The Biopolitics of Gender" on Saturday Dec 17, 2011 at the Univeristy of Helsinki.
  • DAS doctoral student Juha Vuori defended his PhD dissertation "How to do Security with Words - A Grammar of Securitisation in the People's Republic of China" on Saturday Sept 10, 2011 at the University of Turku.
  • New name! Because of the changes in the structure of the Finnish doctoral  training system, the name of the Graduate School of Contemporary Asian Studies (GSAS)  has been changed to Doctoral Program of Contemporary Asian Studies (DAS).
  • The summer seminar was held at the University of Tampere, September 1-2, 2011, simultaneously with the Asian Studies Day 2011 and the Method Festival.
  • GSAS doctoral student Minna Valjakka defended her PhD dissertation "Many Faces of Mao Zedong" on Saturday May 21, 2011 at the University of Helsinki.
  • GSAS doctoral student Päivi Poukka defended her PhD dissertationMoral Education in the Japanese Primary School Curricular Revision at the Turn of the Twenty-first Century: Aiming at a Rich and Beautiful Kokoro" on Friday, April 1, 2011 at the University of Helsinki.
